Short: Adventure interpreter for Scott Adams classics
Author: Andreas Aumayr <Anden@highnet.co.at> &
Alan Cox <computer.society@swansea.ac.uk>
Uploader: Andreas Aumayr <Anden@highnet.co.at>
Type: game/role
Requires: Kick 2.0+
Version: 1.0
This is the AMIGA version of the free Scott Adams (SA) adventure interpreter.
It's based on Alan Cox's Scott-free for DOS & UNIX machines. It will play most
of the Scott Adams and Brian Howarth classic adventure games (see original
README.TXT for more information).
If you like Infocom adventures you'll like Scott's adventures, too. This
package is for people who prefer game-depth and playability rather than
games with Gigs of gfx & sound (but without a plot) on at least 10
CD-Rom's.
Where to get more of that adventure stuff?
------------------------------------------
Adventure data files can be found at ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/scott-adams/
and ftp.kjsl.com/tandy/m1-3-4 (filename: SA-ALL.ZIP).
Included are the PD versions of "Adventureland" and "Pirate Adventure".
Scott Adams adventures useable with SCOTT-Free are:
(released on most 8 Bit platforms, text only)
* ADVENTURELAND * MYSTERY FUN HOUSE
* PIRATE ADVENTURE * PYRAMID OF DOOM
* SECRET MISSION * GHOST TOWN
* VOODOO CASTLE * SAVAGE ISLAND PART 1
* THE COUNT * SAVAGE ISLAND PART 2
* STRANGE ODYSSEY * GOLDEN VOYAGE
The AMIGA version features the following enhancements:
------------------------------------------------------
* Command history (by using CON:; thanks to AMIGA-OS)
* A "!RESTORE" command
* Font sensitivity
It's free but if you wanna do me a favour, send me an e-mail or
a postcard.

There's still a lot of room for further improvements e.g.:
* Reqtools file-requester for loading and saving
* Preferences via tooltypes (e.g. used font, colors, def adventure file, ...)
* More of your suggestions are always welcome but don't expect to much from my
rare sparetime (btw: if you find an unsupported feature (=bug), drop me a
line and I'll see what I can do).
Very, very short instructions & beginners guide:
------------------------------------------------
To start a game use the included example scripts for "Adventureland" (AdvLand)
or "Pirate Adventure" (Pirate). The scripts take a savegame-filename as an
optional parameter. To start from WB just double-click on one of the icons
(you'll need IconX in c:). The beautiful icons are handmade by Roman "MWB"
Patzner.
If your screen resolution is to small to display >= 80 characters/line
(depending on your system font) you can try the -t param (TANDY-flag).
This switches from 80 chars to 64 chars per line.
E.g.: SCOTT -t <adventure-datafile> [<savegame-filename>]
Have a look at the original README.TXT for a detailed parameter list if needed.
Remember: You can always save your game progress with the "SAVE GAME" command.
I advise you to save often :-).
Saved games can be reloaded with the "!RESTORE" command (no need to
quit/restart as in the original interpreter).

Greetings:
----------
Last but not least a big HELLO to Roman. Since he left university we have a
phone/e-mail < 5 KB friendship only :-). Roman will provide MWB icons for the
rest of the SA adventures (he still needs some "creative inspiration" for his
artwork). But as soon as his work is finished we'll upload the icons with
matching scripts and tooltypes for your convenience.
Have fun!
Andreas, 29/Jul/96
